Alacite glass was invented by Henry Hellmers and was described as an ivory opal glass. Used Extensively by Aladdin Lamp Company, this glass looks like a mix between the beautiful opal and ivory.
Alacite glass originally contained Uranium as a coloring agent, but it was banned in 1942 because of the atomic weapons for the war .
Aladdin manufactured many items from the Alacite including lamps, household items and dinnerware, but was discontinued because of its brittle nature
Started in 1872 as Zwiesel Kristallglas in Zwiesel, Germany.
In 1927, competition led to a partnership with the Jenaer Glaswerk Schott & Gen, completed in 1929. Making of sheet glass in Zwiesel was abandoned in 1931 in favour of making bottle glass. In 1931 they employed about 450 persons in Zwiesel. In the 1930s glass production slowed, and due to the scarcity of raw materials During World War II, bottle production was stopped altogether and only important optical glass for the military was produced. Since lost its main location in Jena due to the war, production of optical glass was continued in Zwiesel, until May 1952In 1972 the Zwieseler company took over sales of the well-known heat-proof and chemically resistant "Jena glass".
